The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is without a doubt the most anticipated graphics card of 2022. In any case, it has definitely become so for users from such a target audience as consumers of top end PC hardware.
Nvidia made a little worried, not commenting on the delay with the start of mass production graphics card. So everything was written off to a general pause in the Asian region, associated with the Chinese New Year. And at the end of March 2022 there was finally held long-awaited official release of GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.
This graphics card is notable also for the fact that it may be the last in the line of Ampere architecture graphics cards. The suffix “Ti” in the graphics card name suggests not just its belonging to the premium segment, but more advanced features compared to the slightly older RTX 3090, which was released in 2020. Not to be overlooked, the RTX 3090 was not just one of the top solutions, but was voted the highest performing GPU in the world at the time.
RTX 3090 Ti with 1TB/s memory bandwidth is clearly the solution for professionals, like all graphics cards of Titan product line introduced in 2012, that also has shortened its name to “Ti”. These graphics cards are actively used in film and video industry (special effects, high resolution video editing), in professional gaming, as well as in mining. However, the demand for professional video cards from miners has slightly decreased due to the reduced profitability of this type of activity.
From the older model the RTX 3090 Ti still has the same amount of video memory – 24 gigabytes. But at the same time, the video card got a much faster memory module – GDDR6X, which had a very positive impact on performance. The amount of video memory did not increase because 24 gigabytes still allows for very comfortable work with large amounts of data, especially when creating 2D and 3D graphics.
Of course, presence of more advanced specifications led to significant price increase of the new model: RTX 3090 Ti costs $500 more than its predecessor. Of course, in a relatively comparable segment it is possible to find cheaper solutions if there is no need to cope with extremely serious tasks. In particular, there is a much cheaper, but also top graphics card Radeon RX 6950 XT. True, its performance is somewhat lower.
As for using RTX 3090 Ti in professional gaming, of course, 24 gigabytes of video memory is more reserved for the future as even the most resource-intensive of modern games do not require more than 16 gigabytes of video memory.
The topic of a separate discussion is power consumption of GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The graphics card is one of the most power-consuming: its power consumption figures – 450 watts. But experts believe that the time is not far off when mass production will see graphics cards with half a kilowatt or more of power consumption. Accordingly, power supply manufacturers will have to catch up to this level.
As for the graphics processor, the new graphics card uses GA102, well-known to users of top hardware, which has already proven its worth.
If we compare the total performance figures of the new graphics card and its predecessor, RTX 3090 Ti beats RTX 3090 in almost all aspects. Advantages: 2.5% to 12%.
